Good Movie, Bad Movie
So we're talking movies. I got into a heated discussion about one of the latest romantic flicks 'Dear John' starring 'eye candy' Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried. For me this was a very disappointing film...I was expecting more. My friend Mishy tends to see things differently...she got all teary eyed and thought it was a Great film. The hype, the drama, the excitement all boils down to who likes it or not. I mean I get the whole irony of writing a 'Dear John Letter'...but face it...that's usually a breaking up letter...isnt it?...correct me if I'm wrong. The storyline didnt settle too well with me either...I thought it has a rather ambiguous ending, which makes me think what's the point?? If this story was about 'love'...why did she (Amanda Seyfried) end up in a loveless marriage. In that case, the story should have been about 'Pity'...(yeah...I said it!)
I believe that credit should be in fact given to the PR team on that film; reason being its a hard job making a movie seem more interesting than it actually is. Public Relations on this film was conducted by Touchpoint Communications....(kudus to them). The coverage on this movie prior its release date was Massive!..they sure did a good enough job, so much that 'Dear John' bumped 'Avatar' (which spent weeks at the top spot) off the number one spot in its opening week. The funny thing is movie trailers never cease to amaze me. Its interesting that they craftily select ....maybe 60 seconds of the BEST pieces and ..(maybe its just me)...they MAKE you want to go see it. I must say thats a good PR strategy...give them a preview..yippee and they'll come runnning. The glitter, the lights, the fancy premieres is all a part of the Master plan...to let the unaware and unsuspecting public spend money on cinema tickets to an epic FLOP. Whose to blame though...the person who makes the film or the person who promotes it?
Well, thats just my 'two cents'...but no matter what you say Mish..that was not a good movie...it was mediocre at best :-)...Im just saying

To say a "Dear John Letter" is usually a break up letter is ....... I can't find the word. I guess you are not one for writing letters but others will be able to relate to this, my mother still has all the letters received from my dad.
ReplyDeleteAs time passed by, Savannah found someone else, even though she still loved John.No it was not pity as you put it, she just fell for someone else. Please dont tell me this has never happened to you or anyone else. She wrote John a final letter saying good-bye. This was one story that happened many times during war and its still happening to the current soldiers today.
Now I said it before and I say it again, its not the best of films but if you like romantic films, it deserves a watch. Rant over lol.
lol...ok mam...but it is a breaking up letter and it was pity caz she only got married to the man because he was sick.
